OPERATION SAFE DRIVER WEEK

Operation Safe Driver Week takes place October 14-20, 2012. Drivers in New York and throughout the County will see stepped-up traffic safety enforcement aimed at unsafe driving behaviors, particularly distracted driving and texting while driving.

Pursuant to a press release put out by the Commercial Safety Vehicle Alliance (CVSA), "[l]aw enforcement agencies across North America will respond by actively targeting these drivers during 'Operation Safe Driver,' a program sponsored by CVSA and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) …"

"The goal [here] is to increase activities related to commercial vehicle and non-commercial vehicle traffic enforcement; safety belt enforcement; driver roadside safety inspections; driver regulatory compliance; implementation of commercial driver educational and awareness programs to the motor carrier population; and raising awareness to teens and the motoring public about safe operations around trucks and buses."

Drivers in Rockland County and the Hudson Valley should expect to see an increased police presence on local roads, the Palisades Interstate Parkway and the New York State Thruway.

Police details such as this historically lead to an increase in DWI arrests, Speeding Tickets, Distracted Driving Tickets and other violations of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.
